More coverage on Google Local Business Center



Over the past week Google has started displaying many more results in the local businesses section of its search engine results pages, making it much easier to get listed on the front page. Previously it was unusual to see more than 2-4 businesses listed in the Local Business results, but now it seems to be the case that 10 is the norm, which allows more businesses to get more coverage, but which pushes the organic results further into obscurity as they compete with both sponsored listings and local business results.



Since getting a presence within the Google Local Business results is free, this makes it all the more important for companies competing within their local area to get listed. Listings often appear at the top of the front page and are sometimes even more visible than both PPC (Pay-per-Click) results or organic search results. If your business is not listed then you should do it today, in order to avoid being left behind.



As with all free marketing opportunities there is always a slight catch. The drawback here being for companies geographically situated on the periphery of the city or town they provision. Those businesses closest to the centre get listed first, so while city centre businesses win out, those outside will struggle a little for visibility and will be in more need of professional help with either Adwords or PPC campaigns or with getting better results in the organic listings.



When posting your listing on Google Local Business Center consider carefully the information you need to provide in order to get the most mileage out of this marketing opportunity. Describe your business as succinctly as you can, making sure you use as many keywords which describe what you do as possible, fill in the list of places you cover as comprehensively as you can, and if there is more than one sub category which matches the core services you provide then make sure you make use of it. Lastly if your business provides enough discrete products and services to warrant having more than one listing then, use multiple listings. In short be as thorough as possible. This is a gift horse so don't look it in the mouth.
